World’s Stunning Private Islands That Will Make You Dream Of Owning One

There are dream gadgets, dream cars, dream houses, and now people even have dream islands. Sure, at some point in your life you come to dream of living in an island far away from the nuisance of the world and bask under the glowing sun to all your heart’s desire. Unfortunately, only a lucky few have afforded the luxury of owning an island to themselves, much to the envy of their friends, and probably, of you.
So what do private island owners do in their little paradise? Here’s a list of 10 of the world’s most amazing private islands to give you some ideas. Who knows, one day you might be lucky enough to have your island dream be a reality.

Musha Cay,  The Bahamas

This paradise-like island accommodates white island and turquoise seas fitted for a perfect holiday. Owned by American magician David Copperfield, Musha Cay boasts of an impressive 40 beaches, one of the best is the one with a golden sand pit (pictured above) where a special lunch for two can be enjoyed. Aside from the white sand beaches, it also has a beach cinema, tennis court and an on-site entertainer.

Laucala Island, Fiji

This beauteous island in Fiji with 12 stunning beaches and full 18 hole golf course is owned by the Austrian Red Bull magnate, Dietrich Mateschitz. He wanted to turn the island into a self-sufficient paradise so it has a 240 acre farm that has a range of pigs, chickens, cattle and quail.

Cayo Espanto, Belize

Cayo Espanto has gained fame worldwide since it has been featured on the front of magazine covers more than any other resort. Located off the coast of Belize, this tropical paradise has seven private villas for hire, each with its own infinity pool. The island has its own helipad, dive shop, spa and gym. Celebrities like Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Leonardo Dicaprio are among the many who have vacationed in the island.

Velaa Private Island, Maldives

If you want to experience the Maldives in total luxury, then Velaa Private Island should be your first port of call. The incredible resort is owned by Czech billionaire, Jiri Smejc, and features white sands and crystal clear waters, as well as a tennis court and full golf course. With a spa and restaurant also located on the island, the resort contains everything needed for the perfect holiday. Before you start packing your bags though, you might need to check your bank account, as a single night’s stay for up to 80 guests costs an eye-watering $1.18m (around £700,000)!

Tetiaroa,  French Polynesia

Tetiaroa is 12 small islands and is famous for its beauty and for its owner, the late Marlon Brando. The island which used to be owned by the Tahitian royal family is located 40 miles north of Tahiti. It is home to a tropical bird sanctuary, a beautiful reed and a lovely lagoon. Currently, the island has only one resident – Marlon Brando’s son.

North Island,  Seychelles

The North Island in the Seychelles became popular in May 2011 when The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose the island as their honeymoon destination. The resort boasts of 11 luxury villas, a spa, gym and pool built into its huge granite rocks. Being an eco-friendly resort, the island offers you activities such as walking with giant tortoises, diving with conservationists and moonlit lessons in astronomy.

Dark Island, New York

Dark Island does not have sandy beaches and tropical waters but what makes this island unique is its onw private castle. The postcard-worthy isle is located on the Saint Lawrence Seaway in New York and lies between USA and Canada. The grand Singer Castle was almost bought by Michael Jackson before the owners turned down his offer.

Necker Island,  British Virgin Islands

What makes this island paradise different from the rest on this list is the fact that the Necker Island is actually is the permanent home of self-made billionaire Sir Richard Branson. One can only stay at the luxurious island by invite, yet it has accommodated the likes of Bill Gates, Kate Winslet, Nelson Mandela and Kate Moss. In 2011, a fire destroyed the island but has now been restored to its former glory. The resort possesses a very laidback feel and it has a zip-wire down to the beach as its main highlight.

Motu Tane, French Polynesia

Motu Tane located off the coast of Bora Bora is owned by make-up artist Francois Nars. The island is incredibly chic, with wooden stairs designed by Christian Liaigre and the outdoor landscapes by Pascal Cribier. Guests to this island can enjoy activities including kayaking, ray-feeding, lobster feasts and submarine tours around the crystal-clear waters of the island.
