You’re probably familiar with the show Family Matters, which is considered as a certified classic. It’s likely that you still recognize Steve Urkel, portrayed by Jaleel White, who became one of the most iconic sitcom characters of all time and one of the most famous nerds because of the show. One of his trademarks that lifted him to glory in the industry were catchphrases like “Did I do that?”
The show was focused on a middle-class black family in Chicago, and despite turning quite a slapstick toward the end, it did a very decent job of not being overly slapstick. Good jokes, decent story lines, and solid writing made the show successful, which ran for nine seasons.
Since we’re talking about the show, most of us wonder what the characters must look like now. Well, let’s take a peek then.
Eddie Winslow (Played by Darius McCrary)
Darius McCrary played Eddie, who was kind of a dumb, happy-go-lucky, and more of a ladies’ man kind of guy. McCrary is now 38 years old and still looks pretty much the same, without the ’90s hair styling and attire. He was recently on Anger Management and The Young and the Restless.
Carl Otis Winslow (Played by Reginald VelJohnson)
Reginald VelJohnson played the role of Carl Winslow, a sturdy representative of a responsible black father. VelJohnson was recently on a TV series entitled Hart of Dixie. Carl Winslow was arguably the second-most memorable character from the show.

Laura Lee Winslow (Played by Kelly Shanygne Williams)
Kelly Shanygne Williams played the role of Laura Lee Winslow. Laura was a character, who was interested in her future and wanted to be successful. On the show, she was the middle child. As you can already tell, she was the exact opposite of Eddie, who was more into chasing girls. Since the show, Williams hasn’t been super busy with her career, but she did appear on a short film called Aide-de-camp and in Steppin: The Movie.
Estelle “Mother” Winslow (Played by Rosetta LeNoire)
Mother Winslow was a strong proponent for black history and reminded the young ones in the family about the trials of being black when she was growing up. However, she was also pretty cool. She read Rolling Stone magazine and was much more chic than you’d expect an old lady to be because she was frequenting night clubs as well.
She ended up on the Cosby show for an episode, after appearing in 122 episodes of Family Matters. Aside from that, she hasn’t really had much work since.

Harriette Winslow (Played by JoMarie Payton)
Portrayed by the beautiful JoMarie Payton, Harriette Winslow was a take-no-prisoners mom whom a lot of people could relate to. She was the mother influence and the matriarch on the show, who somehow kept everything together. At the age of 64, Payton is still quite an active actress and is currently working on two projects: Heart of a Champion and Jerico. She’s also played a number of small parts in films and on TV series.
Steve Urkel (Played by Jaleel White)
As you can see, Urkel turned out to be a stylish and handsome man, which seemed totally impossible. Jaleel White is truly a talented individual, because he was able to play a nerd and successfully transcended into a GQ type of guy, proving his amazing talent. He’s currently 38 years old and will forever receive syndication checks from Family Matters. He was also on Dancing with the Stars in 2012.
