Meet the Real-Life Cullen Brothers with ‘Vampire-Like’ Symptoms

In what could be purely coincidental or the magic of fate, these pale-skinned boys, who have to avoid sunlight at all cost, are called the Cullen brothers. But their life is not something to feel envious about. Simon, 13, and 11-year-old George Cullen from Sudbury Suffolk were born with a rare medical condition called hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED).

HED is an incredibly rare condition with only 7,000 reported cases around the world. One of the most noted among them is actor Michael Berryman. The vampire-like appearances include features such as pale skin, the inability to sweat, and fang-like teeth. The Cullen brothers also must avoid sunlight, or they will overheat. Their lives are a mix of scrutiny with acceptance only coming from close friends and family.

“People can be horrible,” said Simon. “Kids make fun of the way we look. But our mates think its cool.”
