Husband Tears Up Over the Letter His Wife Wrote 2 Years Before She Died

Two months before she lost her battle against ovarian cancer, Brenda Schmitz penned a heartfelt letter to her husband. But for David, it took him two years to even find out it existed. This was because Brenda had entrusted the letter  to a friend and asked her to keep the letter until her husband found love again. Back in 2013, he did just that with Jayne Abraham.

When the time was right, Brenda’s friend submitted the letter to the local Des Moines radio station, Star 102.5. The show has an annual program where they grant Christmas wishes. The radio station was shocked to receive that kind of letter over the twenty years they’ve been extending a hand to the community.

It read,

“Hello, my name is Brenda Schmitz. When you are in receipt of this letter, I will have already lost my battle to ovarian cancer. I am writing this letter to have sent to you by a dear friend who has instructions to do so when it was the time,” the letter starts.

“I told [my friend] once my loving husband David had moved on in his life and had met someone to share his life with again, to mail this letter to all of you at the station,” Brenda says of her request. She also praises the station for the good work they’ve been doing.  “I always enjoyed thru the years the Christmas wish you all put on. It is a tremendous and thoughtful deal you do for people that truly exemplifies what Christmas is all about.

Brenda praises her husband for all his good qualities, stating that he wasn’t just a good husband but a great father as well. As for his new fiancée, Jayne, Brenda has nothing but praises even if the two had never known each other. She commends Jayne for being “quite a lady” she wishes she could have met.

“My reason for writing this. I have a wish. I have a wish for David, the boys, and the woman and her family if she has kids also. I want them to know I love them very much and they always feel safe in a world of pain. I was hoping that one small act you all could do for me can change and help their lives forever, and they know I am with them always.”

Jayne received Brenda’s first wish. As the woman who David fell in love with, Brenda wishes Jayne would get a weekend of pampering. “She deserves it,” she writes.”Being a step-mother to all those boys and especially giving lil’ Max a mother’s love that only she can give.”

Her second wish was for her for her family. “For the family  a magical trip somewhere they all can enjoy their company and companionship as a family and create those memories that will be with them forever.”

Brenda’s final wish goes to the doctors and nurses who assisted her as she underwent her ordeal. She wishes they get a fun night together with the cancer patients that they continue to treat.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as Brenda’s final letter was read. It was as if she spoke to them from beyond the grave to touch their hearts once more. She certainly was quite the woman, and we can’t help but wish the best for her loved ones.
