Cinderella Goes Bald to Give Motivation to Young Cancer Patient

Watching Disney movies as they grow up and knowing about Snow White, Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine, Belle, and Cinderella, it’s a normal thing that every little girl would dream to end up like her idols one day. Long gowns, a handsome prince, a pretty face with long, shiny hair become what they want to see when they look at the mirror. But this girl from Staten Island believes she can never be one.

Although she is a fan of Cinderella, five-year-old Isabella Harvey had lost hope that she would become like her idol when she started noticing her hair fall off. The young lady first was first diagnosed with leukemia when she was three, but at the time, she was too young to think about how she looked; but now that she turned five, the effects of chemotherapy to her hair had left her conscious and despondent.

Feeling sorry for her daughter, Isabella’s mother, Pina Harvey, looked for ways to cheer her daughter up. She contacted Gianna Nicole’s Heart of Hope, an organization committed to helping children with cancer and their families. The organization then asked help from New Jersey–based photographer Alana Hubbard of Mother Hubbard Photography to organize a princess-themed photoshoot for young Isabella.

Just got out from a two-week treatment in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, Isabella went to the venue apprehensive and insisting she keep her hat on. But when a bald Cinderella walked into the room, Isabella’s reaction changed.

Photographer Hubbard recalled, “Isabella ripped her hat off with this huge grin and said, ‘Wow! You look just like me!’” Not knowing her bald hero was just wearing a bald cap, Isabella got hold of the moment and realized that she could be a hero too, that it’s all okay.

Pina Harvey expressed her gratitude to the people who made the whole thing work for her daughter. “This definitely helped give her a boost of confidence that she needed and showed her that anybody can be beautiful, with or without hair,” she told BuzzFeed in an interview.
