Lorna gets up at 5:30 a.m. every day to fit in one hour of cardio exercise before she sends her children to school. Her partner, Steven, is also a bodybuilder, so he understands her routine.

Her day is filled with washing up, cleaning, infant feeding, and diaper changing, with her shifts as a firefighter and gym time squeezed in between all the chaos. Lorna prepares meals for her children, six separate high-protein meals for herself, and a different menu for Steven.

She has served in the fire department for 14 years, and she has the respect of her male colleagues, some of whom are less muscular than Lorna.

She says that her neighbors must think she is crazy for her dedication to exercise, but she loves it.

Her biceps measure an impressive 14 inches, and her thighs are 23.5 inches. Lorna started weightlifting in 2013. She has won Muscle Xcess Classic 2013, NABBA Miss Scotland Trained Figure, Muscle Xcess Classic 2015, and second place of NABBA Scotland 2015. She dreams of one day garnering a universal title.

Her children are very proud of the tough mommy. She is mother to Taylor, 15, Marlee, 13, Reid, 8, and Quinn, 1. Marlee and Reid are already interested in their fitness and want to have big muscles when they are older. She says she and Steven gave the children a good example on how to take care of their bodies.

There are times when people gawk and stare when they are in public, but her partner and children could not be more proud of her.

Her weightlifting craze began when she had a knee injury from a charity football match. The training was an attempt to build muscle around the joint, but then she became addicted to lifting weights. The change in her body was dramatic. Her body is now all muscle. She loves to see her muscles strengthen and grow. Within six months of weightlifting, she gained 14 pounds of muscle and went from a size 10 to a size 16.

She met her partner, Steven, at a bodybuilding competition in 2013. Their love for weightlifting led their romance to blossom after the competition.

Lorna says, “It’s great to be with someone who understands the level of commitment and dedication and won’t try to tempt you away from your diet with a pizza. Sometimes I can be snappy with Steven when I’m on a shredding diet and I’m hungry but he understands where I’m coming from because he might have been in the same situation a week before.”

Lorna eats six high-protein meals daily. That would include six egg whites, plenty of chicken, and steak. Each day she devours 4,000 calories worth of food.

Lorna now wants to encourage more women to take up bodybuilding. She says it just takes dedication and commitment. Women can have it all, according to her. Female bodybuilding is also becoming more common.

On a final note, she issues this warning, “I’d challenge anyone who says bodybuilding is a men’s sport to come and train with me in the gym—they wouldn’t be thinking that way for long.”
