Anucha Saengchart, who often goes by the simpler name Cha, was a caretaker at an elderly home in Thailand when he launched his Facebook page in 2013. He later quit his day job to focus on his newfound love, costume playing.

Cha knew then how expensive this hobby could be, so he searched for ways he could cut down the costs of cosplaying. The solution? Using items that are available at home.

This is how his series low-cost cosplay came to be.

According to Cha, the idea came to him when he saw a bunch of colorful towels. He then tried to create a costume inspired by Piccolo from Dragon Ball using the towels, took a picture of himself, and uploaded it on his page. To his surprise, the photo went viral and gained positive feedback from the online community. He quickly shot to fame and became known as the Lonelyman, who uploads hilarious photos of him sporting low-budget ensembles.

His costumes are never perfect, but that’s what makes each piece comical. And although his outfits lack details, they’re all well-compensated for by his artistic knack and ingenious thriftiness. Indeed, no one can do what he can. No wonder he instantly became an online sensation with over 3.9 million followers on his Facebook page.

Despite his popularity, Cha never forgets to give back to his fans by regularly updating his page and uploading more sensational cosplay photos. Now at 25, he is still doing what he’s good at—cheap cosplay! He still uses household objects, school supplies, and packed foods, among others, to imitate famous anime characters. He also parodied notable film characters such as Harry Potter and Spider-Man, as well as some popular Asian celebs.
