Hawaii’s Kilauea Volcano Erupts …Giving us these Incredible Pictures

A fast-flowing river of molten lava from the volcano Kilauea flowed over Hawaii and its surrounding forests last August 28. Thankfully, it didn’t pose any threat to the communities nearby, said the Geological Survey officials.

The Kilauea is among the world’s most active volcanoes. It has been erupting continuously for the past 32 years.

Witnesses recalled that the lava traveled about 0.8 kilometers in less than 24 hours. Reports said that the lava was last seen flowing to the subdivision of Eden Roc in the eastern portion of the island, which is home to 450 people.

Reuters reported that a magnitude 3.8 earthquake shook the ground on that same Friday, which probably caused the eruption. Officials from the US Geological Survey also added that “low levels of seismic activities continue across the volcano.”

Even if the latest explosion of the volcano isn’t really harmful to the surrounding communities, officials are closely monitoring the situation, especially now that the lava is still flowing.

The Big Island’s volcano has since become a popular tourist attraction as it sends lava and rocks into the air.

Here is a video of the lava flow:
