Maibam Itomba Meitei is an Indian weightlifting champion who has successfully set a world record for the most number of pinky pull ups. Meitei used only his pinky finger to pull himself above a bar 16 consecutive times in a matter of 30 seconds.

The previous record was set by an American weightlifter, who performed 16 pull-ups within 60 seconds. By doing the same number of pull-ups half the time the previous record holder set, Meitei was able to snag the title. He performed the astonishing feat at an event in Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy. Everyone from the crowd was amazed at how strong Meitei was.

Of course, an ordinary bar wouldn’t be fit for this kind of feat, so a specially designed bar with two small hooks, where he can insert his two pinky fingers, were made just for the event. Once his pinkies were in place, he then lifted his 51 kg body, bringing his chin past the bar.

But success always comes with hard work. Meitei has been perfecting his pinky pull ups technique for 14 years with only one thing in his mind: to beat the world record. He even mentioned that he was able to do 28 pull-ups in a minute during a practice.
Meitei planned to do 30 pull-ups on the day of the event, but he had to stop, due to the fact that his left pinky finger got stuck in a sharp edge and began to bleed. Although he was unable to do 30 pull-ups, he was still able to beat the record, which means he ultimately achieved his goal.

Metei first gained fame after he performed at a local Annual Yaoshang Sports Festival. He was then featured in the Asia Book of Records and in India’s Limca Book of World Records. He has been doing pinky pull ups for a very long time, and according to Metei, it was Moirangthem Okendro, a record holder for the largest topiary in the world, who inspired him to try it out for a Guinness World Record.
But Metei isn’t only good at pinky pull ups. He also came out a champion during the State Level Weightlifting Championship in Manipur in 2007. He was also a runner-up at the All-India Weightlifting Championship in 2007 and has won several awards as a weightlifter.
