In this digital age when fake news thrives and even photos and videos are easily manipulated, it can be hard to tell apart what is real from what is not. Ghost photos are no exception. What can seem eerily real can prove to be just a photography trick or an editing manipulation. But that doesn’t mean that everything out there is fake. There are some ghost photos that are the real deal and can serve as proof that maybe, just maybe, we are not as alone on this earth as we think we are.
5 Real Ghost Photos That Will Make You Sleep with the Lights On
The following photos are just five of the scariest real ghost photos in existence:
1. The Ghostly Crew Members of the SS Watertown

The above picture shows the ghostly images of James Courtney and Michael Meehan, two crew members of the SS Watertown, who had died from gas fumes in 1924. Upon their death, their fellow crew members buried them at sea off the coast of Mexico. For several days thereafter, the surviving members were haunted by images of their recently deceased coworkers appearing in the waters below their ship. Their captain, Keith Tracy, took a series of pictures of the ghostly phenomena and had them developed by a commercial developer in New York. While the first five pictures showed nothing, it was the sixth and last picture that got their attention and made them gasp in horror: it showed the ghastly faces of the dead seamen in the water. The picture was checked by the Burns Detective Agency, who affirmed that the photo had not been tampered in any way.
2. A Ghost or an Angel?
Sharon Boo, a photographer working for the Pawling Fire Department in Dutchess County, New York, captured the above image. She had been taking pictures of the scene of a car accident as a service for the fire department. While most of the pictures showed nothing out of the ordinary, one photo captured her attention: right beside the wrecked car was a white image of what seemed like a human figure. Some have claimed it to be a ghost, while others say it is the figure of an angel. What they definitely agree on is that it is most definitely that of a spiritual entity.
3. The Horrifying Story of Doris Bither
The above picture shows Doris Bither, a woman who was said to have suffered from a spectral rape, with what appears to be a white orb of light around her. She claimed to have been raped by ghosts, and it is her story that is featured in a book entitled The Entity, which was later on adapted into a movie of the same name.
4. The Case of the Translucent Hand
The photo above shows Peaches Geldof, now deceased, and her young son Astala in the bath. There is a mysterious translucent hand seen just above her shoulder, which is not that of Peaches or her young son. Creeped out by the image, Peaches, who was 24 at the time, posted the spooky selfie on her Instagram account, explaining that it may have been the hand of a female spirit who had killed herself a hundred years before after delivering a stillborn baby.
5. He Didn’t Want to Miss the Squad Picture
At first glance, nothing seems wrong with the above image. It appears to be just an ordinary picture of a typical RAF squadron from World War I. But here comes the real details behind it, and prepare to be creeped out: the photo shows an extra ghostly face, who was absolutely not there at the time it was taken. The face is that of Freddy Jackson, an air mechanic who had died in an airplane propeller accident just two days before. It seemed like Freddy, even though he was already dead, wanted at least to be immortalized in their squad picture. Now that is creepy!
