Every day, we go on with our lives and follow our daily routines. We wake up, go to work, go home, sit for a couple of movies, watch the news, spend the rest of the day having some fun. We do this for the whole week, the whole month, the whole year, and for the rest of our lives. Even after watching the news or traveling to a foreign country for a vacation, we sometimes forget that there are many things going on in the world. Because we are busy with our small world, we often do not see the Beauty and Horror, the amazing and sorrowful, positive and negative things that are happening around us.

Iowa couple of 72 years finally gets married.
After being together for seventy-two years, Alice Dubes and Vivian Boyack finally got married last year. The couple has been together since their first meeting in college in 1942. They never announced their relationship in public because same-sex relationship and marriage was a taboo back then. When Iowa became the fourth state to make same-sex marriage legal in 2009, Beauty and Horror of the two sweethearts were finally able to wed in a beautiful and touching ceremony.

An 18-year-old IDF soldier
This photo was taken by Sgt. Asher Svidensky. The subject of the image is an 18-year-old female soldier. The soldier was taking her rest after a military exercise. Because of the emotion showed in the image, it went on to become the promotional photograph for the women’s freedom and responsibility exhibition.

When Somayeh Mehri asked her husband for divorce, this didn’t sell well with him. One night, while Somayeh and her young daughter were fast asleep, Amir poured acid on them. The mother and daughter suffered burns all over their bodies. It left them with both physical and physiological injuries. Beauty and Horror Somayeh’s father sold his land to raise funds to finance their medical expenses.

According to various sources, the father worked hard as a farmer to support his son’s and other children’s education. The son in this photo has just graduated from Ratchpatr University in Thailand. This image shows how parents would sacrifice everything so that their children can have better future.

Seven-year-old Syrian rebel
For over three years now, Syrian rebels have been fighting to overthrow Pres. Bashar al-Assad. Children are employed by rebels to transport guns and supplies. These children never experienced childhood like a normal kid should. They were forced to join the rebel forces or face fatal consequences.

As Syrian military forces and the rebel forces continue to fight, more and more civilians are caught in the middle. This boy’s home was hit by a bomb. He dug through the rubble and miraculously found, then rescued his sister. Both of them survived the attack with only small injuries.

A young Suri proudly shows off his tribe’s traditional body paint. The tribe lives in the southwest part of Ethiopia. It is the custom of the group for young boys and men to cover their bodies and faces with paint made of a mixture of soil, herbs, and plants. The tribe’s women, on the other hand, will remove their bottom teeth and put large plates in their lips.

This image shows Toshimana, a maiko in Kyoto, Japan. A maiko provides entertainment for people during celebrations and gatherings. They dance, sing, and play a three-stringed Japanese instrument called samisen. Before, for 300 years, a maiko will only serve tea and dango to people who visit the Kyoto shrines, but later on, they started to perform songs and dances.

In the world, China is known to be the biggest producer and consumer of coal.
Public bus passengers rescues a woman who tries to take her own life.
This Chinese woman tried to commit suicide while riding a public bus. The woman slit her wrist with a knife. Luckily, passengers noticed what happened and quickly came to her aid. They applied first aid and notified the police. The woman’s life was saved, and she was brought to a nearby hospital.

There are so many things that we inherit from our parents. This picture is an example of that. Both mother and daughter have the same eyes. One eye is dark brown while the other is blue. This is scientifically coined as heterochromia iridium.

The Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada is the host of the annual Burning Man Festival. This young woman is one of the thousands of attendees who came to the desert in the last week of August.

Madagascar is home to some of nature’s most unique and rare trees. This image shows a young Malagasy girl surrounded by the sacred forest of Baobab trees. The trees are said to be over a thousand years old. The tree is considered the “tree of life” by the Malagasy tribe because it provides shelter, food, and water for both animals and men.

This image shows Basunga, a three-week-old baby born with albinism, with his cousin. Basunga lives in Kinshasa, Congo, and will likely face some difficulties when he grows older simply because of his skin color.
This girl survived twelve days in Siberian Forest with only her dog as her aid.
Three-year-old Karina Chikitova was dubbed Mowgli for a certain reason. The young girl followed her father into the forest without his knowledge. She ended up getting lost. Her mother realized that her daughter was missing after four days. Luckily for Chikitova, her dog followed her the whole time. Her dog protected her from wild animals and kept her warm at night. The girl was finally rescued from the Siberian wilderness after twelve days. Beauty and HorrorChikitova survived by drinking water from the river and eating wild berries.
