But contrary to its name that signifies hope, some of the sightings associated with this old structure include the ghost of governor Pieter Gysbert van Noodt and the specter of a large black hound.

Akershus Fortress, Oslo, Norway

The Norwegian medieval structure Akershus Fortress is considered to be the most haunted place in Norway. Its most popular ghost is none other than the demon dog Malcanis who is said to be the protector of the gates leading to the castle.

Island of the Dolls, Xochimilco, Mexico

Believed to be haunted by a young girl who drowned in the murky waters of Lake Teshuilo, this place’s residents believed that the girl was unable to leave the island. The dolls came about when a man named Julian lived on the island.

According to local legend, the girl told Julian of how she died and sought his help to provide her with dolls. The girl’s thirst for the dolls began to grow deeper until one day Julian was found dead at the same spot where the young girl perished. Tourists claim that they often felt the doll’s eyes following and whispering to them.

Located Down Under, this famous haunted place in Australia is said to be disturbed by the ghosts of the former occupants of the home. According to rumors, Mrs. Crawley, the owner of the mansion, locked herself up after the death of her husband, never seeing the light of day for the remaining 23 years of her life. It is reported that visitors would hear the shrills of a weeping woman and the feeling of being suffocated as if some kind of unseen force is choking them.
