Real or Imagined …The BMW M9 would Make an Amazing 100th Anniversary Gift

,

Lately, there’s been a lot of buzz about BMW making a possible hybrid between the M and i sub-brands. After some time, the German car makers said it loud and clear: not now. Anyway, even if BMW put a big no on our hybrid dreams, they couldn’t stop us from imagining the stuff, right?

So the latest thing going around the Internet is just the rendering chatter of the imagined BMW M9. Actually, plans and blueprints of anything from crazy lamps to out-of-this-world cars are circling the web, and most of them will never become reality with the possibility of one exception– The M9.

It was rumored that the M9 will come alive sometime in 2016 and that the car would be BMW’s gift to its fans for its 100th anniversary. The M9 is supposed to be the German’s first proper super-car. The company has made a lot of wonderful cars, but somehow, most of them find it hard to grasp the super-car niche.

Out of all BMW’s car, the M1 was the closest to being a super-car if you take into consideration the year it was launched. But even the M1’s aura faded away over time. BMW would even be further away for the super-car niche, if not for the help of Lamborghini, and that’s the worst part of it.

That’s why many fans of BMW and even automobile observers are clamoring for the German automakers to make a proper high-performance car that can take on the supercars of Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini. Many hoped that the M9 will be that car.

The pictures of the car in this post were rendered by Razvan Radion, a Romanian designer. The concept car is stunning. It would carry an evolution of the i8 engine with a powertrain that can give out an excess of 500 HP and 800+ Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. Making this car capable of keeping up with the 458 and maybe even the 488 GTB.

If the lightweight of construction of the i8 would be kept, there is a good chance that it would be kept along. After all, the company has been investing heavily in the SGL plant in the US. The plant is where the CFRP is being manufactured. The investment will eventually pay out, and BMW could use the material in every car that they will make from that point on.

With the proper inline 6 and an electric motor, the BMW will be the super-car of our dreams! Too bad it won’t happen soon. It looks like that BMW’s gift to us for its centennial anniversary is the M2. Who said we’re mad? We’re not, not at all!
